When it comes to your health, like it or not, your subconscious runs the show. Your conscious mind may have the best intentions, but if those intentions are not embedded into your subconscious, failure is eminent. Neuroscientists now tell us that up to 95% of what we do every day is motivated by our subconscious programming. The good news is that programming your subconscious is relatively easy if you know how. An added benefit is that once programmed for healthy behaviors, those behaviors become hard wired into the subconscious putting those behaviors on automatic. It then becomes natural for your body to heal itself, energize, motivate and rejuvenate. This is, of course, how we were designed to operate – in a perfect world. However, less than optimum life experiences have added programming that does not always support the natural biological functions of the body. In computer language, they call it malicious code or viruses for a reason. We call them bad habits, thoughts and beliefs. Many of these were programmed in before we can remember, and we don’t even realize our bodies are responding to those belief systems. We frequently forget or don’t realize that we can create a healthy body at any age, and that we are not at the mercy of outside influences. It does help, of course, to know how. Let’s get started.

Step One: Learn To Access Your Subconscious

We access our subconscious by managing our brain waves. The brain emits electrical activity displayed in the form of brainwaves. The four categories of brainwaves you need to understand are: beta, alpha, theta and delta waves. Beta waves are present when we are consciously alert, thinking, speaking, tense or afraid. Alpha waves are present in deep relaxation. This state presents an optimal time to heighten memory, learning, imagination, visualization and concentration. Alpha is also the gateway to the subconscious and optimal for self-hypnosis or subconscious programming. Theta waves represent an even deeper level of relaxation. Theta occurs just before you fall asleep, or while doing repetitive tasks like showering or highway driving when you forget what you are doing. For example, you can’t remember whether you applied the shampoo or you miss your normal exit. Guided hypnosis works well in the theta brainwave state. Delta waves are present during deep sleep or unconsciousness.

Meditation practices or hypnotherapy will move you into the alpha/theta brainwave state. There are also audio programs designed to entrain your brain to the alpha/theta wavelengths, as well as new technologies that sync your brain to the different frequencies. A silent or imagined walk in the outdoors is one of the simplest ways to bring your brainwaves into alpha. Every night right before you fall asleep and immediately upon awaking are powerful and easily accessible times to do your programming. If you want your affirmations to work, it’s important to move the frequency of your brain into alpha/theta first.

Step Two: Learn To Speak The Language Of The Subconscious

Your subconscious does not distinguish between “reality” and “imagination”, What ever information you send it while in the alpha/theta brainwave state will be accepted as true. Therefore, be very mindful of what you tell yourself. Like a small child, your subconscious will believe everything you say!

The subconscious speaks in symbols, likes repetition and is powered by emotion. It is very important that you visualize in detail with positive emotion as if what you desire is already manifested. The subconscious is very literal. It does not use words to communicate with you, unless the word is a symbol. If streams of words or stories are going through your head, you are operating in beta or you are listening to your ego and not your inner guidance. At this point it is very important to breathe paying attention to your breath until your mind calms into a quiet space. When you feel yourself entering the alpha state, you can ask your body questions. It will answer you in symbols or a sense of knowing. The more you practice this, the more you will come to trust its accuracy, and the stronger your intuitive guidance system will grow.

Step Three: Have Patience With Your Subconscious

Your subconscious is terrified of change. To the subconscious, change represents death. That is why when we dream of dying, it usually represents going through a big change in our lives and almost never an actual death. The comfort zone of the subconscious is what it already knows. When we do what the subconscious already knows how to do, we experience a sense of pleasure. When we try to do something our subconscious has never done before, it experiences pain and tries to stop us. It will literally find a way to sabotage your positive changes. Stay alert and persist lovingly. Learning to deliberately move your brainwaves (consciousness) up and down the scale from alert, to deep relaxation, to sleep is a powerful skill. You can then use that skill to strengthen your immune system, improve the quality of your sleep, heighten your senses, increase your pain threshold, increase your coping skills and enhance your intuition to name a few. Who knew, the fountain of youth is within you.


Exercise: Close your eyes, take three deep breaths feeling yourself relax more with each exhale. Now imagine or visualize yourself walking in your favorite outdoor environment, feel the air on your skin, hear the sounds around you, notice the quality of light and the fragrances in the air. In your imagination find a comfortable spot to recline. Notice the sense of peace you feel growing inside of you. Now imagine each one of your cells glowing with healthy, healing, energizing light. Feel the balancing energy from the earth flowing up into your body and the light from divine intelligence flowing down into the top of your head meeting and circulating throughout your body. Imagine with each breath your body’s own intelligence is balancing all systems for optimal health and longevity.
